Defer Attendance
International students are eligible to defer their admission or application for up to one academic year. Requests beyond this allotted time will require the student to re-apply with the application fee and certificates, diplomas, and transcripts.
Additionally, coursework completed since your application was submitted must be reported and will be reviewed in the deferral process.
For F/J Visa recipients: Deferral requests to a semester which is more than 6 months later than the current semester must include financial support documentation, which can include sponsor letters, bank statements and/or other forms of financial guarantee.
Admissions Deferral
For students who have applied and been accepted to USI.
- An admissions deferral is not automatic or guaranteed. All requests will be reevaluated for admission.
- Priority deferral requests must be submitted before the first day of class of the term for which you were admitted.
- An admission deferral may be granted for a maximum of two consecutive semesters (does not include summers). The admission deferral guarantees only admission into the University and not necessarily admission to a particular major or program of study.
- Requests to defer an offer of admission will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis and may be granted for reasons including, but not limited to visa denied, illness, military service, and humanitarian or religious service. Supporting documentation must be provided.
Application Deferral
For students who have completed the online application.
- Priority deferral requests must be submitted before the first day of class of the term for which you applied.
- An application deferral may be granted one time (and up to one year from your original application start date).
