Photography Emphasis

Art majors with photography emphasis will earn either a Bachelor of Arts or a Bachelor of Science degree at the University of Southern Indiana. At USI, the difference between the two degrees lies within the University Core 39 Curriculum. A minor in photography is also available.

Find class descriptions and major/minor requirements on the University Bulletin.

Why study Photography?

The photography emphasis provides students with a thorough photographic education that encompasses both technical and conceptual pictorial concerns. Students establish a comprehensive understanding of the photographic medium through the study of analog and digital processes, while bolstering critical thinking and communication skills in a series of studio electives and required coursework.

Students in the photography program have completed internships at and found employment with:

  • Arts Council of Southwestern Indiana
  • Evansville Museum of Arts, History and Science
  • Discovery Channel
  • Evansville Living Magazine
  • News4U Magazine
  • private photographers’ and artists’ studios

Our facilities include:

  • A newly renovated digital photography lab (Spring 2015) with a large format printer
  • A lighting studio with "hot" and strobe lights
  • A black and white film/chemical darkroom
  • Cameras and other equipment students can borrow for special projects
