TESOL and CAT Certification (ONLINE)

2018 Summer TESOL Class

Since 2016, the University of Southern Indiana has offered certification courses in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) and Cultural Awareness Training (CAT). These certifications can be completed by undergraduate and graduate students and count for academic credit towards a degree. As of 2021, these certificates can be completed entirely online. 

Certifications also are offered to non-degree seeking students and working professionals who want to complete the courses for professional development. Certification programs accommodate alternative modes of delivery based on company needs, time frames, and number of participants and may be offered on location, on campus, or via Zoom. The TESOL course is offered online during the summer term only.

TESOL Certification - 98% SUCCESS RATE

Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) certification offers educational skills in teaching English to speakers of other languages at home and abroad. The course offers:

• Methodological and theoretical training on second language acquisition
• Instruction in teaching methodologies
• Hands-on experience in the classroom

The 6-credit course is offered over the course of one month during the summer term.

Undergraduate students enroll in WLC 423, while graduate students enroll in WLC 523.

Undergraduate Student Requirements
Undergraduate students wishing to obtain TESOL certification must meet the following requirements prior to enrolling in the course:

• Be of junior standing
• Completion of two semesters of a foreign language
• Approval of the World Languages and Cultures department chair

CAT Certification - 98% SUCCESS RATE

Cultural Awareness Training (CAT) certification provides the necessary skills to build an effective workforce in an increasingly global and diverse business setting. The online program:

• Draws on the idea that a global and multi-faceted workforce offers new perspectives, creative problem solving skills, and innovation in the workplace and the community at large.
• Gives rising leaders new perspectives on how they view the world in order to create an inclusive and productive work environment.

The 3-credit course is offered during the spring term.

Undergraduate students enroll in WLC 422, and graduate students enroll in WLC 522.
