Letter of Intent
For entry into the Master of Arts in Communication program at the University of Southern Indiana, applicants are required to compose a letter of intent⏤approximately 500-750 words in length⏤reflecting on their interest in the program, academic and professional background and future goals.
When composing the letter of intent, applicants should begin with contact information including:
- Complete name
- Mailing address
- Email address
- Telephone number
In the body of the letter, applicants should address the following questions:
- Why are you interested in pursuing a graduate degree in communication from the University of Southern Indiana?
- How has your undergraduate education or professional experience (or both) prepared you for entry into a graduate program in communication?
- What are your expectations of graduate-level education? In what ways, if any, do you anticipate your graduate education differing from your undergraduate training?
- What are your academic and/or professional goals? How would acquiring a Master of Arts in Communication degree from USI contribute to reaching those particular goals?
Before mailing the letter, applicants should confirm they have:
- Completed an application for graduate admission
- Paid the application fee
- Have sent all required undergraduate and graduate transcripts as needed
