Bachelor of Science in Nursing Admission

An admission into the nursing program requires a nursing application process separate from the admission application to the university. Admission to the nursing program involves a holistic process. The number of students admitted to the nursing program each year is dependent upon learning resources. Application periods will open in the spring semester for a fall program start and summer semester with a spring program start.  Information on application deadlines for specific starts can be found here.

USI nursing students will complete clinical experiences in a variety of healthcare and community settings.  In order to optimize clinical learning experiences, students may be required to travel up to 70 miles and provide their own transportation to assigned agencies or institutions.

Non-native speakers of English must meet English proficiency requirements as established by the USI Center for International Programs.

There are three methods of admission to the program: Direct Admission, Conditional Direct Admission, and Holistic Admission.  Please click on the specific method to find the required on-line application, submission instructions for supporting documents, application deadlines and descriptions of pre-requisite coursework.

Direct Admission & Conditional Direct Admission

Direct and Conditional Direct Admission applies only to students who are first-time degree seeking students and who are applying within the first calendar year of high school graduation.  Applications for direct admission must be received by assigned dates for the spring and summer admission periods. 

To qualify for direct admission, students must have both:

• a junior year cumulative high school GPA of 3.5 or above on a 4.0 scale;
• a minimum ACT of 26 or a SAT after March 2016 with a combined score of 1240 (reading and math, with minimum 580 in each area).

To qualify for conditional direct admission students must have:

• a junior year cumulative high school GPA of 3.4 - 3.49 on a 4.0 scale and minimum ACT of 26 or a SAT after March 2016 with a combined score of 1240 (evidence-based reading and math, with minimum 580 in each area).

OR

• a junior year cumulative high school GPA of 3.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale and minimum ACT of 25 or a SAT after March 2016 with a combined score of 1210 (evidence-based reading and math, with minimum 560 in each area).

Holistic Admission to the undergraduate nursing program may occur after completion of 31 hours of required university courses.  Admission to the program is based upon the following:

• Calculated GPA score using the applicant's first-year courses.  
• Submission of a 150-word Personal Statement describing why you want to become a nurse. 
• Submission of the Leadership and Community Engagement Resume. 
• Participation in a personal interview.
