HI 410 Internship Handbook

Important information to note regarding prerequisites for Health Informatics and Information Management internships:

  • Admitted to the Health Informatics and Information Management program with a 2.75 GPA
  • Successful completion of HP 475 and HI 405 with a grade of C or better
  • Completion of specified Health Informatics and Information Management pre-internship coursework:
         Required courses, with a 2.75 GPA: HP 475, CIS 151, HI 301, HI 302, HP 302, IPH 356, and HI 405.

Steps to an internship prior to release for registration for HI 410:

1. Complete and submit application via email to the Health Informatics and Information Management program administrative assistant, Theresa White-Grimm, at twhitegrim@usi.edu .

Deadlines for Application Submission:

April 15 for Fall Internships
September 15 for Spring Internships
February 15 for Summer Internship

2. Enroll and complete your Castle Branch profile.

Deadlines for Castle Branch Profile Completion:

August 1 for Fall Internships
December 1 for Spring Internships
May 1 for Summer Internships

NOTE: You must have a COMPLETED Castle Branch profile PRIOR to being accepted to an internship.

3. Schedule appointment with USI Career Services Coordinator, Elizabeth Buchanan, (812) 464-1865 or eabuchanan@usi.edu.

Deadlines for Meeting with Career Services:

April 30 for Fall Internships
September 30 for Spring Internships
February 28 for Summer Internships

4. Secure internship with site supervisor.

Return your completed and signed Health Informatics and Information Management contract, work agreement and contact information forms to the Health Informatics and Information Management office in HP 3095.
