The Romain College of Business launches Lessons Beyond the Classroom Speaker Series

The presenters in the Lessons Beyond the Classroom series are experts in a variety of business areas, and they are invited to campus to share their experiences and “lessons learned” as they advanced in their careers.  A presentation typically involves hands-on information that is intended to encourage questions and discussion from the participants, and it is hoped the participants will gain knowledge that will be applied in their own lives and in their future careers.

Build Wealth, Not Debt

Chris Hogan, financial coach and protégé’ of Dave Ramsey, presented his “7 Baby Steps” to achieving financial security before a near-capacity crowd in Mitchell Auditorium on the USI campus, filled with students, faculty, staff, administrators, and community members. His presentation was titled, "Your Financial Decisions Today Will Determine Your Financial Future."

SCORE Google Tour

As a member of the Global Entrepreneurship Network supporting Global Entrepreneurship Week, Romain College sponsored the SCORE Google Tour and hosted Erin Bemis, a speaker for Google’s Get Your Business Online program. She gave workshop participants simple, easy tips to immediately improve their marketing program for their business, create a free Google “My Business” listing, improve their website’s visibility in Google’s organic search results on all devices, and advertise their business on Google.

Lessons Learned as a Portfolio Manager

Mark Nickel, Hilliard Lyons senior vice president and chief investment officer, presented, “Lessons Learned as a Portfolio Manager.” In addition to career advice for students, Nickel offered his perspective on investments, portfolio management, and economic trends.  “Be aware of history,” he said. “It may not repeat, but it will rhyme.”
