Occupational Therapy Assistant

The Occupational Therapy Assistant (OTA) is a valued member of the occupational therapy team and assists the occupational therapist in carrying out prescribed therapy. OTAs work directly with patients of all ages in a variety of settings including schools, long-term care facilities, hospitals, and rehabilitation centers. The occupational therapy assistant program is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education (ACOTE) of the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA) and over 90% of our graduates pass the NBCOT exam on the first try. Average salary upon graduation is $56,070 per year.

Admission Requirements

  • The student must be accepted to USI
  • The student must have at least a 2.9 GPA
  • Prerequisite classes are required to be completed by June 30 of the year planning to be admitted to the fall class

What is the average accepted GPA?
Students should strive to have a 3.4 GPA on a 4.0 scale in the prerequisite admission courses.


When is the application deadline? Is admission multiple times a year?
January 20 for admission into the program for the following fall term. Admission is once a year.


How many students are accepted each year?
30 students are accepted yearly for the Occupational Therapy Assistant program.


How many applications do you typically receive for the OTA program?
Approximately 60 applications are received each year for the Occupational Therapy Assistant Program.


When will I know if I am accepted?
Notifications are sent by mail and email in March. To ensure receipt of your notification, please ensure the DMS Department has your correct USI email and mailing address.
