Health Informatics and Information Management

Developed in response to the changes and demands of the healthcare industry, the Bachelor of Science in Health Informatics and Information Management (BSHIIM)  will combine concepts in healthcare, information technology, and management practice to provide graduates with the knowledge needed to be a valuable designer, implementer, and manager of health information systems.

Admission Requirements

  • Admission to the program is competitive and selection of the applicants is based upon the following:
    • A minimum 2.75 GPA in required prerequisite courses based on a 4.0 scale
    • Completion of all required pre-admission courses with a letter grade of "C" or better before beginning the HIIM program.
    Once in the program, students will have to maintain a minimum level of performance (no lower than a "C" letter grade) in each of the HI courses to progress to the next semester of the program.

What is the average accepted GPA?
Students should strive to have a 2.75 GPA on a 4.0 scale in the prerequisite admission courses.


When is the application deadline? Is admission multiple times a year?

  • At this point in time, admission is rolling. The official application deadlines are:
    • August 1
    • March 1​
  • Please check with the Advising Center/Program Chair to clarify application deadlines.

How many students are accepted each year?
Approximately 50 students are accepted each admission cycle for the HIIM Program.


How many applications do you typically receive for the HIIM program?
As this is a new program as of 2017, historical data is not available.


When will I know if I am accepted?
Notifications will be mailed and emailed to you roughly two weeks after the admission deadline.  To ensure receipt of your notification, please ensure the HIIM Department has your correct USI email and mailing address.
