About the Project

sane logoThe Indiana SANE Training Project is a grant funded program, awarded by the Health Resources and Services Administration (“HRSA”). The Advanced Nursing Education-Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners (“ANE-SANE”) funding aims to provide advanced nursing education to increase the number of Registered Nurses (RNs), Advanced Practice Registered Nurses (APRNs) and Forensic Nurses who are trained and certified as Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners (SANEs) in communities on a local, regional and/or state level.

The Indiana SANE Training Project is hosted by the College of Nursing and Health Professionals at the University of Southern Indiana along with the Southwest Indiana Area Health Education Center (SWI-AHEC).

The Indiana SANE Training Project is supported by a Project Advisory Council that includes members representing the Indiana State Department of Health, Indiana State Police Crime Lab, Indiana Department of Child Services, Indiana Prosecuting Attorneys Council, Indiana Emergency Nurses Association, Indiana Coalition to End Sexual Assault, Indiana Hospital Association, Indiana AHEC Network, law enforcement, rape crisis centers and sexual assault nurse examiners.


Project Coordinator

Angie Morris PicThe Indiana SANE Training Project is coordinated by Angie Morris, BSN, RN, CEN, SANE-A, SANE-P, EMT, DM-AFN. Ms. Morris came to the discipline of forensic nursing in 2014. She earned a bachelor’s degree in the concentration of Social & Behavioral Science with minors in Sociology and Criminal Justice from Indiana University and a bachelor of science in nursing from Marian University, where she graduated with honors. She is currently an MSN student at the University of Southern Indiana.

Prior to becoming a nurse, Ms. Morris worked for nearly 13 years in various roles within the criminal justice and legal field and served as a program director for the State of Indiana. Ms. Morris has experience as forensic nurse in the Emergency Department of a metropolitan level I trauma center and is a board-certified Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner and Certified Emergency Nurse.

Ms. Morris is a member of the Emergency Nurses Association, Academy of Forensic Nursing, International Association of Forensic Nurses, and Sigma Theta Tau Nursing Honor Society. In 2021, she was awarded distinguished membership to the Academy of Forensic Nursing. Ms. Morris serves as a gubernatorial appointee to the Indiana State Board of Nursing, is a member of the Indiana Statewide Sexual Assault Response Team, and serves as the Forensic Committee Chair for the Indiana Emergency Nurses Association.

Ms. Morris is a lifelong Hoosier and resides with her husband and two children in Fishers, Indiana.
