Scholarships and Aid

The Department of Geology and Physics has a number of scholarships and awards for students who have demonstrated a high level of academic performance, either as a student in high school or as a Geology major or as an Earth-Space Science teaching major. Over $12,000 in scholarships are awarded by faculty review of potential recipients in the late fall/early spring of each academic year. A summary of scholarships and awards are summarized in the table below.

The Department is also committed to supporting geology majors that seek a field camp experience.  Completion of an intensive geology field camp prepares junior and senior majors in pursuing graduate study in geology.  The Walter F. Sill Field Camp Scholarship provides funding to these students.  In order to be eligible, students must submit an application for this scholarship by the second Friday in February prior to the summer of their field experience.

Finally, exceptional sophomore or junior majors interested in careers in environmental geology or petroleum geology are encouraged to apply for the J.R. Dick Harris Scholarship.  Eligible students must complete an application by the fourth Friday of January for the upcoming academic year.
