Congratulations to 2019 Goldwater Scholar, Meghan McCrary!
USI Biology major, Meghan McCrary, Class of 2021, is one of only 11 students in the state of Indiana to receive the 2019 Barry Goldwater Scholarship for Excellence in Mathematics, Science and Engineering. This presigious scholarship is awarded to students who have exhibited excellence in research and plan to pursue further education and a career in research science.

Meghan works with USI Assistant Professor of Biology Dr. Alex Champagne to investigate the lipids found in the skin of bats. They are particularly interested in how the skin of bats is similar to that of birds. They are searching for evidence of convergent evolution among bats and birds. Meghan presented some of her work at The Society of Integrative and Comparative Biology 2019 Annual Meeting in Tampa, Florida earlier this year.
