Non-attendance/Early Alert Grades are required for all full-semester courses at the 200-level and below and are available for all levels. Early Alert grading is available for full-semester courses only and is intended to give students feedback during the first three weeks of the semester. Early Alert grades are based on a limited number of assignments, participation in class and early assessment of academic performance. Only the applicable grades for a specific class will be shown on myUSI under the link for Mid-term Grades.
- Passing grade- indicates the student is passing at week 3
- 3P (passing grade week 3)
- 3DP (developmental passing grade week 3
- 3S (satisfactory grade week 3)
- 3D - indicates the student needs to improve
- Failing grade - indicates the student is failing at week 3
- 3F (failing grade week 3)
- 3DNP (developmental not passing grade week 3)
- 3NP (not passing grade week 3)
- 3U (unsatisfactory grade week 3)
- 3NA (non-attendance) - indicates the student's attendance is a problem that may affect success; does NOT administratively withdraw students from class
- Go to myUSI
- Log in (Portal Sign In) using your username and password. If you do not know or have forgotten your password, please visit the Information Technology Help Desk (FA 41) with photo ID.
- Click on Self Service.
- Click on the Faculty Services link.
- Click on Mid-term Grades.
- Select the appropriate term (example, Fall 2016) term and click Submit.
- Select course from drop down box and click Submit.
- Select the appropriate grade (3P, 3D, 3NP, 3NA, etc.) for each student from the drop down box in the “grade” column. Since the 3rd and 6th week grades will be entered in the same field in myUSI, grades with a '3' will be used to distinguish the grades entered during the 3rd week from those entered at the sixth week (A, B+, B, NA, etc.)
- You may press the tab key or use your mouse to navigate to the next student.
- Only 30 names are displayed on each page so if you have more than 30 students enrolled in a section, look for “Record Sets” (appears at both the top and bottom of the page) and click on the range you wish to view. For example, if you have 100 students enrolled in a section, you will see “Record Sets” 1-30, 31-60, 61-90, 91-100.
- Be sure to SUBMIT grades when you are finished. As noted on the screen, there is a 15-minute time limit, so please submit grades often.
- Please confirm that all grades have been entered. NOTE: Students who have dropped/withdrawn from your class will not appear on your roster.
- At the end of the semester, you will be required to submit a final grade for ALL students who remain enrolled in your class. The sixth week is your only opportunity to administratively withdraw non-attending students.
- The Registrar's Office will be unable to process NA or early alert grades after the deadline. Students who have dropped/withdrawn from your class will not appear on your official roster.
- Please do not allow students to attend your class that are not on your official roster.
- Students who do appear on your myUSI roster remain enrolled regardless of whether or not you have signed an Add/Drop form for the student to withdraw. It is the student’s responsibility to submit the Add/Drop form to the Registrar's Office for processing.
- Your Self-Service Roster is your official roster. The Blackboard roster is NOT official and does not impact the student’s official record in any way.
- Students who remain officially enrolled (i.e. have not withdrawn or been officially dropped by the instructor at the sixth week for non-attendance) at the end of the semester will be offered the opportunity to complete a course evaluation, even if they have stopped attending.
- Prior to the grading deadline, we will begin sending informational email messages to instructors with one or more missing grades. These messages are generated REAL-TIME and indicate that grades are still required. The messages do not indicate that grades are late; however, if you receive a message AFTER you have entered grades, you should go back and review your grade roster to determine the problem.
