University of Southern Indiana

Research Policies

Survey Policy
The Office of Planning, Research, & Assessment (OPRA) is able to provide expertise and consultation for faculty wanting to conduct survey research (internal and external). In order to facilitate this process more efficiently, OPRA has established guidelines to streamline the process for the online survey creation and result(s) distribution. Faculty requesting OPRA's assistance for survey creation must obtain IRB approval before the distributing the survey.

Election Policy
OPRA is available to provide support for the creation and administration of elections for vacancies occurring on University of Southern Indiana committees/councils annually. In order to facilitate this process more efficiently, OPRA has established guidelines to streamline the process for ballot creation, election administration, and result(s) distribution. All materials necessary for the election must be received by OPRA two weeks prior to the start of the election period.

Institutional Review Board (IRB) Policy
To ensure that the USI Planning, Research & Assessment is in compliance with Institutional Review Board (IRB) regulations, we are requiring all survey clients (internal and external) to contact Sponsored Research to verify what type of IRB review, if any, is needed prior to fielding any type of survey.

The client is responsible for forwarding Sponsored Projects and Research Administration's (OSPRA) response as to whether or not IRB review is necessary to our office. A response by email is acceptable.

If IRB review is required, the paper work required for such review will be the responsibility of the client. Final documentation that IRB approval has been received must be forwarded to Planning, Research & Assessment prior to the survey field start date.

Visit USI's IRB website for further explanation or contact rcr@usi.edu for questions.
