About Us

Our Mission

Historic Southern Indiana (HSI), a heritage-based regional outreach program of the University of Southern Indiana, seeks to identify, preserve, enhance, and promote the historic, natural, and recreational resources of the region for the benefit of visitors and citizens. HSI's service area includes the 26 counties below or traversed by U.S. Highway 50.

Our Vision

Southern Indiana's landscape, numerous small rural towns, and several urban anchors reveal a rich and distinctive cultural and natural inheritance. Citizens of the region recognize and appreciate the uniqueness of the area. They acknowledge and respond to significant challenges and opportunities. They participate actively in decision-making processes to enhance the quality of life in the region.
