Rotary selects USI’s Davidson as 2021-22 Global Scholar

Rotary’s southern Indiana District has selected University of Southern Indiana graduating senior Cameron Davidson of Salem for its 2021-22 Global Grant Scholarship.

The $40,000 award will help fund Cameron’s pursuit of a master’s degree in Global and International Studies from the University of Salamanca in Spain where he will focus on nationalism and conflict management.

Cameron was endorsed by the Evansville Morning Rotary Club and chosen by a team of 13 Rotarians from clubs in the district. Scholars must present a plan of study and a career commitment that align with one of The Rotary Foundation’s six areas of focus. Cameron’s area of focus is “peace and conflict prevention/resolution.”

During his years at Salem High School, Cameron won a Salem Rotary Club speech contest on the organization’s “Four-Way Test,” participated in Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) and spent and spent a year in Mexico as a Rotary Youth Exchange student in Mexico. “This was my first international experience, and it made a lasting impression,” Davidson said.

In 2021, Davidson was an intern with the U.S. Embassy in Madrid, Spain.

As a Rotary scholar, Davison will be hosted in Spain by the Rotary Club of Salamanca.

After receiving his master’s degree, Davidson wants to work as a foreign service officer in the U.S. State Department and the Bureau of Human Rights, Democracy and Labor to promote peace and instill democratic values in Europe.

Cameron is District 6580’s fourth Global Grant Scholar. Previous scholars were Aubrey Seader, a Rutgers graduate from Bloomington, who earned a master’s degree in Arts and Culture Management from Kings College London; Alexandra Starry, an Indiana University School of Public and Environmental Affairs graduate, master’s degree in Public Policy from the Hertie School of Governance in Berlin; and Clarice Cross, an IU journalism graduate, who will complete her master’s degree in Community Economic Development from Waseda University in Tokyo later this year.

Davidson will begin his studies in Spain in September.
