Program Updates

Master of Public Administration Capstone Students, Meredith Dixon, Beth Alston, Jordan Sanders and Danielle Walker have been working with Evansville non-profit, Aurora, to measure the supply and demand of affordable housing in Evansville. Their report informs the state of housing insufficiency and suggest strategies for the community to strengthen housing for all residents of Evansville. Among the major trends are increasing inflationary pressures, an usually high occupancy rate (~96%) and a finding that over half of Evansville renters are cost burdened (i.e. contributing over 30% of their income to housing costs). While important strides have been made in housing the homeless population and there are a number of new affordable housing options on the horizon, there is likely to be an affordable housing deficit for the near future.
