Summer 2019 Review

• 2019 marks the 10th Anniversary of the Center for Social Justice Education (CSJE). CSJE was established by the USI Social Work Department in 2009 to foster advocacy for social justice and empowerment through education, research and collaboration. Read more about CSJE on their website.
  
  
• We welcomed 10 new faculty members to the College of Liberal Arts including a new chair of the Art and Design department, Ms. Sara Christensen Blair.
  
  
• Professional Studies student, Tammy Rickard, returns to USI after over 20 years to finish degree. Tammy writes about her journey…
  
  
• Former Posey County Prosecutor Travis Clowers ‘04, a USI Political Science graduate, was officially sworn in as Posey County Superior Court Judge in April 2019.
  
  
• Forty-six members of the USI Chamber Choir traveled to New York City’s famed Carnegie Hall as a part of the Masterwork Festival Chorus 20th Anniversary Concertin May 2019. Listen to choir members talk about their experience in this video.
  
  
• Instructor in English, Yu-Li Alice Shen's original full-length play, Image May Contain, was produced by STAGEtwo Productions in July 2019. The production featured performances by USI theatre student Sarai Dinkens Agalaba and other local thespians.

Fall 2019 Review

• FishHook, the award-winning USI student-run art and literary journal, publishes its Fall 2019 issue. Read about FishHook’s journey in an article by Senior English major, Brandon Hartman.
  
  
• Alumna JoElle Knight ‘06, Public Relations and Advertising, was recognized in Evansville Business Journal (EBJ)'s 2019 "20 Under 40," an annual list of emerging leaders.
  
  
• Kathryn Waters, professor emerita of art who taught at USI from 1981 through 2019,was awarded the 2019 Mayor’s Arts Award at the Arts Council Awards ceremony hosted by the Arts Council of Southwest Indiana.
  
  • Also at the ceremony, Jonathan Hittner '01 was named the recipient of the Visual Arts Award. Hittner received his bachelor’s degree in fine art from USI and was a student of Waters.
    
    
• Justin Groenert M’17, Master of Public Administration graduate, joined the Chattanooga Area Chamber of Commerce as vice president, Public Policy in August 2019.
  
  
• The University of Southern Indiana held its annual Faculty Convocation in October. The Convocation is a formal ceremony to highlight and celebrate the accomplishments of the USI faculty. Three awards were bestowed upon Liberal Arts faculty.
