39th Annual USI Juried Student Art Show
The 39th annual Juried Student Art Show opened with an awards ceremony. 145 works by USI art and design students were chosen for the show from among 300 entries. This is the first year that the Juried Student Art Exhibition was in the McCutchan Art Center & Pace Galleries. The show runs from April 5-29, 2009.
Student art is selected for the annual exhibition by an expert in the field of art who has an understanding of undergraduate art works. An independent juror is invited to select art works and awards, and to provide an educational experience for students in preparation for professional careers in art. This year, Juror Arturo Sandoval, professor of art at the University of Kentucky, selected works for the show on Thursday and presented the juror’s lecture that evening. Sandoval is known internationally for his innovative weavings and mixed media art quilts.
Area companies and private individuals generously provide funds for awards presented at the Juried Student Art Exhibition. Awards are given in the form of Merit Awards, Purchase Awards, Scholarships and certificates for art supplies.
Best Dressed, by Melissa Richard, won the Best of Show Award.
