Program Admission

Requirements

The Health Services Core and Specialty prerequisites must be completed prior to consideration for admission. Until an admission decision has been made, the student will be in a Pre-Specialty status. Admission decisions will be based on a minimum 2.75 GPA overall at USI. The Bachelor of Science in Health Administration (BSHA), Degree Completion or Generalist options are also available should the student prefer.

How to Apply for a Specialty Track Option

  • Make sure you meet the prerequisites and admission requirements as stated above before applying.

  • Submit an application to the USI Health Services Program by:
  • March 1st - for Fall admission of the current year.
  • October 1st - for Spring admission of the following year.
  • A Mandatory orientation meeting will be held upon acceptance into the program.  Information of the meeting will be provided in the acceptance letter.  The process below will be explained in the meeting.
  • Once you are accepted into the Health Services program, you will need to complete the following Castle Branch requirements before applying for an HP480 Internship:

Health Services - Specialty Track

Health Services majors are required to complete one specialty area: Gerontology, Health Promotion and Worksite Wellness or Public Health. Recommended and required pre-admission courses for each specialty area are listed below.

Gerontology Specialty

Recommended Pre-Admission Courses 
ENG 210: Technical Writing 

Required Pre-Admission Courses (not included in hours count for major) 
PSY 201: Introduction to Psychology 
Math 111: College Algebra or
Math 114: Quantitative Reasoning

Required Pre-Admission Health Services Core Courses (15 hours; C or better is required)
HP 211: The Health Care Delivery System 
GERO 215: Gerontology
PH 284: Public Health 

The following courses may be taken after admission to one of the specialty tracks:
HP 302: Biostatistics
HP 356: Ethics and Health Care

Health Promotion and Workplace Wellness Specialty
