Students Represent USI at IT Competition; Receive Two Awards for Real-World Project

Three teams of students from the Romain College of Business participated in the fifth annual Information Systems Project + Case Competition hosted by Ball State University’s Miller College of Business. This is the second year for USI to compete.

Each team presented the senior project that they worked on this semester in their CIS 477 and CS 483 classes. The students who presented The Home Nursing Service System (Care4Me) earned first runner up in the Project Presentation category and second runner up in the Case Solution category. The software they developed is an online solution that tracks and submits the healthcare information, including medicine administration, dietary habits and pain management, of homebound patients to a primary care provider thereby improving patient care and communication. The system is the first of its kind and is Health Insurance Portability & Accountability Act (HIPPA) and information privacy compliant. The project also represents a unique multidisciplinary collaboration between the Romain College, College of Liberal Arts, and College of Nursing and Health Professions. The team members from the Romain College were Bradley Cadden, Dylan Claywell, Ivy Griffin, Logan Hayford, Aaron Porter, Colton Wagner, and Lance Wayman.

Two other projects were presented at the competition by USI students. The Magic Screen team designed a single portal login to assist USI HelpDesk employees improve case resolution time. The team was made up of Jordan Felty, Hannah Meadows, and Walter Fisher. The 3D Virtual Reality for New Harmony project was an interactive virtual tour guide.  The team used USI’s Business and Engineering Center as a prototype to develop skills. A grant has been secured for the next phase of the project in which they will develop a virtual tour for the New Harmony Preservation Commission. The 3D team included students Jace Bittner, Michael Lee, and Christopher Mallory.

There were 13 teams from six universities, including Ball State, IU, and Purdue, at the competition.
