Private Business Valuation Challenge Team Finalist in Case Study

Congratulations to the team of USI students who placed as a finalist in the 2016 Private Business Valuation Challenge. Team members are seniors John Pena, a finance major, Jazmine Skelton, and Brandon Medcalf, both accounting majors. Faculty advisor to the team is Tim Bryan, instructor in accounting.

In the first round of the competition, the team submitted a video presentation detailing their evaluation of the case study and solution to the business problem. They had less than three weeks to learn about business valuations, prepare an economic and industry outlook, prepare valuations of both a business and consideration being offered, write a script, record the video sessions, and edit and compile the more than 30-minute video.

Judges for the case study narrowed the competition to only five student teams that advanced to the finals round. Teams presented their evaluations at J. Mack Robinson College of Business, George State University, along with a question and answer session with the judges.

Special thanks to Mr. Brad Minor, director, Blue & Co., and Mr. Paul Baumberger, manager, Kemper CPA Group LLP, for assisting the students with evaluating income methods, market methods, and marketability.
