Economics major wins writing competition; article featured in Hoosier Banker magazine

The second writing competition in Dr. Marie Bussing’s Money and Banking class was held in Fall 2013.  The goals of the competition were threefold: to encourage business writing, to stimulate economic education, and to highlight current banking topics and issues.   Forty students competed, writing on a host of banking topics and trends.  Themes covered in the class included currency, monetary policy, The Federal Reserve, national and state banking, community banks, and central banks across the globe.  Guest speakers included Mr. Tom Austerman, CEO and President, Commerce Bank and Dr. Erin Yetter, Economic Education Specialist with the St. Louis Federal Reserve.

The winning article, Janet Yellen: Federal Reserve Chair, was authored by Almeta Rodgers, a senior economics major.  The article was featured in the February 2014 Hoosier Banker magazine (page 20).
