Strength and Conditioning

The USI Strength and Conditioning Track is honored to be acknowledged by the National Strength and Conditioning Association’s Education Recognition Program.

The NSCA Education Recognition Program (ERP) recognizes and distinguishes schools with standardized, approved strength and conditioning or personal training curricula in undergraduate and graduate settings designed to prepare students for the NSCA-Certified Personal Trainer® (NSCA-CPT®) and NSCA Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist® (CSCS®) certifications.

Help Athletes Reach Their Performance Goals as a Strength & Conditioning Professional

The USI strength and conditioning track prepares students to become NSCA Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialists and work at the high school, collegiate, or professional level or go into private practice. 

This premiere program provides a combination of exercise science content knowledge (i.e., kinesiology, biomechanics, exercise physiology, etc.) with specific training science coursework that prepares students to effectively assess, prescribe, and teach performance enhancing exercise to athletes utilizing some of the latest technological innovations in the field.

Program Highlights Include:

  • Instruction from faculty who are strength and conditioning professions that currently or have experience with athletes at the collegiate and high school levels.
  • The opportunity to assess current collegiate athletes in your training science coursework.
  • The opportunity to work with faculty on research projects that include athletes at the collegiate and professional levels.
  • Spring/Summer of 2017 we are breaking ground on 5,000 sq. ft. facility that will house an Instructional Performance Center and Human Performance Lab
  • The new facility will be equipped with state of the art exercise and sport science equipment and technology, including Hammer Strength/LifeFitness Strength Training Equipment, Bodpod, Hydrostatic Weighing Tank, Force Plates, a DEXA, Elite Form Systems, High Speed Treadmills, VO2MAX Testing, and much more.
  • In the last 2 years, students in the strength and conditioning track have completed their practicum requirements or went on to become graduate assistants or full-time strength coaches at Wake Forest, Butler, Purdue, Indiana University, Eastern Michigan University, North Dakota State, Illinois State, University of Texas (Arlington).
