Sanctions for Violating Policies

USI expects the cooperation and commitment of all students and employees in maintaining an environment free of illicit drugs and illegal use of alcohol. Students and other campus constituents are deemed to be adults responsible for their own behavior and are expected to obey the law and University rules regarding drugs and alcohol. If campus policy is violated by a student, the events will be reviewed by the Dean of Students Office or designee. The severity of a violation, the degree and circumstance of a student’s involvement, and the student’s conduct record and academic progress will be evaluated. For the full explanation of the conduct process, see the Code of Student Behavior.

The following table outlines the most likely sanctions for violating Alcohol and/or Drug policies. Your hearing officer can use his/her discretion when assigning sanctions, and will choose those that are most appropriate for you and for the violation. More severe situations and violations will warrant more severe sanctions.
