Welcome to the RT Program at USI!
The University of Southern Indiana offers two options for a Bachelor of Science degree in Respiratory Therapy (BSRT): a four-year entry level (on campus) program and an RRT to BSRT online degree completion program.

Note: Due to the COVID-19 restrictions, we will not require observation for our 2021 applicants.

Mission Statement

The mission of the Respiratory Therapy Program is to provide sound instruction and resources that will enable students to develop the knowledge, skills, attitude, and critical thinking which are necessary to become successful and competent respiratory therapists. The Respiratory Therapy Program fosters and promotes health and wellness through the advancement of education, teaching excellence, practice, research, community engagement and a commitment to lifelong learning.

Program Goals
  1. To prepare graduates with demonstrated competence in the knowledge, skills and behavior required for respiratory care practice as performed by registered respiratory therapists (RRTs).
  2. To prepare leaders for the field of respiratory care by including curricular content with objectives related to the acquisition of skills in one or more of the following: management, education, research and advanced clinical practice (which may include an area of clinical specialization).
  3. To provide community leadership through engagement, service learning and organizational involvement.
  4. To provide an inclusive learning, caring community that supports students' success and graduation.
  5. To serve as a leader in respiratory education, evidence-based practice, research and health care.
  6. To promote and advance personal development and interprofessional collaboration of respiratory faculty, staff, graduates and health professionals.

General Disclosure of Program Licensure or Certification Requirements

The Respiratory Therapy program prepares individuals for employment in the state of Indiana upon successful completion of the National Board of Respiratory Care examination and upon meeting state licensure requirements. The university has not determined if students from other states need to meet additional requirements for employment in those states.

CoARC's Outcomes Webpage: CoARC accredits respiratory therapy education programs in the United States. To achieve this end, it utilizes an "outcomes-based" process. Programmatic outcomes are performance indicators that reflect the extent to which the educational goals of the program are achieved and by which program effectiveness is documented.
