BSN Conditional Direct Admission

Conditional direct admission applies only to students who are first-time degree seeking students and who are applying within the first calendar year of high school graduation.  

To qualify for conditional direct admission, students must have either:

  • A high school junior year cumulative GPA of a 3.4-3.49 on a 4.0 scale and one standardized exam score that meets the following requirements:
    • SAT taken after March 2016 with a combined score of 1240 (reading and math, with minimum 580 in each area).
    • ACT composite score of 26. 

OR

  • A high school junior year cumulative GPA of a 3.5 or above on a 4.0 scale and one standardized exam score that meets the following requirements:
    • SAT taken after March 2016 with a combined score of 1210 (reading and math, with minimum 560 in each area).
    • ACT composite score of 25. 

Accepted conditional direct admission students must maintain eligibility by earning a college GPA of 3.3+ on a 4.0 scale, by completing the first year prerequisite courses by the specific fall or spring nursing courses start. Students will work closely with an advisor to determine an individual schedule.

* To be eligible for admission to the Nursing Program, all Students must receive a grade of "C" or better in these courses.

+ Students may have the option to take both Chemistry 142 Survey of General Chemistry AND Chemistry 143 Survey of Organic & Biochemistry (4 credit hours each) combination that is the equivalent of Chemistry 141 (4 credit hours).  If students take the two-course option, the grades for each will be averaged for the points to be applied to the student’s application.

 Science Eligibility
  • Anatomy and physiology and chemistry course credit must be earned or equivalent competence demonstrated within five years of enrollment in clinical nursing courses. 
  • Any student who receives more than one 'D' or 'F' in any of the required science or nutrition courses is ineligible for the nursing program at USI.
  • Students applying for admission to the USI Nursing Program may enroll in the required science courses a maximum of two times per course including transfer credits from any university or college. This rule applies to all students admitted to the university as of August 2020. 

Application Steps
  • Acceptance to the University of Southern Indiana as an undergraduate.
  • Non-native speakers of English must meet English proficiency requirements as established by the USI Center for International Programs.
  • Complete and submit the Direct Admission Application. The application should be submitted PRIOR to the start of your course work at USI.  
  • A 200 word essay must be submitted separately either by email to cnhpadmissions@usi.edu or to the secure fax (812) 465-7092.  In the essay, please tell us about yourself, your reasons for selecting nursing as a profession, and address your career goals.
