Mandatory Requirements for All Students
All students selected for admission to the nursing program must also meet clinical agency requirements and be able to perform essential functions as outlined in the CNHP Handbook, be eligible for RN licensure, and capable of fulfilling clinical practice requirements.
CPR Requirements
All students are required to have current "Healthcare Provider" CPR. CPR documentation is submitted and approved through CastleBranch. Students who are not in compliance with current CPR certification in CastleBranch will not be admitted to the clinical agencies.
HIPAA Requirements
The USI College of Nursing and Health Professions complies with HIPAA standards for patient confidentiality and personal health information. Students must complete the USI CNHP HIPAA education program and submit to CastleBranch for approval annually. Students who are not in compliance with HIPAA requirements in CastleBranch will not be admitted to the clinical agencies.
OSHA Requirements
The USI College of Nursing and Health Professions adheres to the OSHA standards for infection control and exposure. Students must complete the USI CNHP OSHA education program and submit to CastleBranch for approval annually. Students who are not in compliance with OSHA requirements in CastleBranch will not be admitted to the clinical agencies.
A student whose CPR, HIPAA, and/or OSHA documentation is not submitted and approved in CastleBranch by the first day of class each semester will be given a performance improvement plan (PIP) contract for not being prepared for clinical and may be administratively dropped from the course.
No documentation for CPR, HIPAA, and/or OSHA can expire before the end of the semester. Any documentation that is due to expire during the course should be renewed, submitted, and approved through CastleBranch by the expiration date to prevent any disruption in clinical attendance. Failure to renew and submit documentation by the expiration date could result in a PIP and may impact student’s progression in the nursing course and program.
CNHP Infection Control and Student Incident/Accident/Injury Policy
Students must adhere to the USI CNHP Infection Control Policy as outlined in the CNHP Handbook. Students who have an incident/accident/injury should contact their clinical faculty immediately and follow the instructions for completing the forms within this policy.
Zachary Law Compliance Policy
To comply with the state and federal regulations, potential and current students and faculty in selected programs within the College of Nursing and Health Professions, will be required to have a criminal records check relating to sexual and violent offenses against children.
In accordance with the state of Indiana’s revisions of Zachary’s law made in January of 2003, the College of Nursing and Health Professions will verify if the student is registered with the registry for convicted sexual and violent offenders against children, and will continue to do so at least annually for as long as the student remains in the program.
Should the student’s name appear in the sex offender registry, the student will be denied admission to or progression in the undergraduate nursing program. If the listing is the result of an error, it will become the student’s responsibility to correct the error before admission or progression in the program will be permitted.
