STARs

Istock 000018114007XsmallThe USI Counseling Center; Recreation, Fitness, and Wellness Center; and Housing and Residence Life have developed a peer education program called STARs (Students Teaching and Advocating Resilience). This new volunteer experience will provide students the opportunity to assist with outreach events that address different health topics, as well as develop their own programs and presentations.

STARS is a group of motivated students interested in the health and well-being of other USI students. STARs are responsible for assisting with outreach events that address different health topics (for example, tabling events), as well as developing their own programs and presentations. A small group of staff from the Counseling Center; Recreation, Fitness, and Wellness; and Housing & Residence Life advises STARs.

STARS is a pilot project designed to provide students with new opportunities to connect with fellow students, model positive health behaviors, gain skills in program planning and implementation, and gain knowledge on health topics. It is a valuable experience for students who are majoring in or plan to pursue a career in a helping profession, including psychology, social work, health professions, etc.
