Incoming Freshmen
Undergraduate Admission Process and Requirements
Apply for admissions to the University of Southern Indiana by completing our online application (available August 15). There is a $40 application fee.
Each freshman applicant is reviewed on an individual basis and is evaluated on the following areas from his/her high school transcript:
- four years of English
- three to four years of laboratory science
- three years of social studies
- three to four years of mathematics.
- If graduating from an Indiana accredited high school, USI prefers students complete Core 40 requirements.
- cumulative GPA with a preference for a minimum of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale
Standardized Test Scores:
Beginning with admission for 2021 academic terms, USI allows students to decide whether or not to provide standardized test scores as part of their application. If students choose to submit SAT or ACT scores, we will superscore and take the best score from each section for a final score. Students who are homeschooled or attend a high school that does not provide traditional grades will still be required to submit SAT or ACT scores. Learn more about USI’s test optional admission.

Undergraduate Admissions also considers extra-curricular involvement and recommendations from counselors. Upon acceptance to USI, you will receive detailed information about orientation, registration, and housing.
Note: During heavy application times, it takes approximately 2-3 weeks to process an application and make an admission decision, once all materials have been received. If you have submitted an application more than three weeks ago and have not received a letter, check on the status of your application.
Obtaining credit for prior educational experiences:
Transcripts recording any course work completed while in high school that could be considered for college credit should be submitted with the Application for Undergraduate Admission. All work will be evaluated for possible credit according to USI's Credit by Exam policy and Transfer Credit Policy.
