Scholarships and Aid
Scholarships, grants, loans and work-study programs are available to help make education affordable. Scholarships and awards given to students majoring in mathematics and mathematics teaching include:

Additionally, Academic Achievement Awards are awarded each year in the following areas:
- Mathematics
- Calculus
- Mathematics Teaching
- Statistics

- Current USI student majoring in mathematics
- Enrollment status
- Enrolled as a full-time student in the previous fall and spring semesters
- Must successfully complete 12 credit hours each semester the scholarship is received
- Must enroll in at least one math class satisfying a requirement of the major each semester the scholarship is received
- Academic requirements
- Current USI students must be in good standing with the University
- Selection decisions made by a committee appointed by the Chair of the Department of Mathematical Sciences
- The applicant may receive other forms of academic assistance without jeopardizing his/her eligibility as long as maximum financial aid does not exceed cost of board, room, tuition and books
To apply for this scholarship, sign in to myUSI and click on the yellow triangular AwardSpring icon to complete an application no later than the AwardSpring application deadline, typically the end of January. If additional information is needed, applicants will be contacted by the selection committee.
This scholarship is a one-year scholarship; however, a student may reapply for a second or third year.
- Entering freshman majoring in mathematics
- Residency Requirement
- Enrollment status
- Majoring in mathematics or mathematics teaching
- Enrolling as a full-time student
- Must successfully complete at least 30 credit hours each year the scholarship is received
- Must be enrolled in a least one math class satisfying a requirement of the major after the first semester (A student may take Math 115 or Math 118 the first semester of his or her freshman year; math teaching majors are exempt from taking a math course during the student teaching semester.)
- Award may be used during the fall, spring or summer term; there is no math requirement for the summer term.
- Academic requirements
- Have a minimum high school g.p.a. of 3.3 out of a possible 4.0
- Have a minimum of either a 600 on the Math SAT or a 26 on the Math ACT
- Apply for admission to USI by March 1
- Selection decisions
- Made by a committee appointed by the Chair of the Department of Mathematical Sciences
- Selection based on merit
- Renewable requirements
- Maintain a minimum USI g.p.a. of 3.0 through two years of coursework at USI and a minimum 3.3 thereafter
- Maintain a minimum 2.75 g.p.a. in all math classes fulfilling the major
- Demonstrate the ability to successfully complete a bachelor's degree in mathematics within 4 1/2 years
- The applicant may receive other forms of academic assistance without jeopardizing his/her eligibility as long as maximum financial aid does not exceed cost of board, room, tuition, fees and books.
- This scholarship will provide funds to cover half the cost of tuition (at the in-state tuition rate) for all credit hours enrolled by the student during the fall, spring or summer term. Pending approval of the Chair of the Department of Mathematical Sciences, scholarship support may continue during semesters when students are engaged in internships or other experiential learning opportunities.
- This half-tuition scholarship is automatically renewed each year all requirements are met for up to four years (maximum of eight semesters and four summer terms).

- Must enroll in at least one math class satisfying a requirement of the major each semester the scholarship is received
- Academic requirements: must be in good standing with the University
- Selection decisions made by a committee appointed by the Chair of the Department of Mathematical Sciences
- The applicant may receive other forms of academic assistance without jeopardizing his/her eligibility as long as maximum financial aid does not exceed cost of board, room, tuition and books.

- This one-year scholarship is designed to be used for the fall and spring semesters; however, if there are extenuating circumstances, the Chair of the Department of Mathematical Sciences may allow use of the scholarship during the summer terms. Pending approval of the Chair of the Department of Mathematical Sciences, scholarship support may continue during semesters when students are engaged in internships or other experiential learning opportunities.
