Fortify your knowledge with experience using today’s tools of manufacturing. The Applied Engineering Center houses more than $3 million in advanced machinery for the design and production of goods. It’s like having access to your own factory for hands-on practice.
The Business and Engineering Center serves both the Pott College of Science, Engineering, and Education and the Romain College of Business. Your opportunity to work on teams with students from these areas of study exposes you to problem-solving from different perspectives. Team efforts include:
Robotics. Design, build and operate a robot in competition sponsored by the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineering (IEEE). In 2017, USI’s student engineers brought home a championship trophy.
BAJA SAE. Design, assemble and road-test a commercial prototype of a recreational vehicle.
Solar Splash. Design and build a solar-powered electric boat and prove its performance in a competitive regatta.
Concrete Canoe. Make a canoe out of concrete so that it not only floats, but sails.
Professors (not grad students) teach you in both the classroom and the laboratory. Many have a background in industry, so you get practical, professional insights for applying what you learn.
