Alcohol and Sex

Alcohol lowers your inhibitions and interferes with decision-making, which makes for some potentially dangerous sexual situations. Consent cannot be given by someone who is incapacitated due to consuming drugs or alcohol or for any other reason.

Incapacitation is a state where someone cannot make rational, reasonable decisions because they lack the capacity to give knowing consent (e.g., to understand the “who, what, when, where, why, or how” of their sexual interaction).

For more information about consent and incapacitation, or if you need someone to talk to, please contact the Office of Institutional Equity/Title IX, USI Counseling & Psychological Services, or Albion Fellows Bacon Center for help and support.
