The Norwegian Foot March is an 18.6 mile foot march while carrying a 25 pound ruck sack. Participants have no more than 4.5 hours to finish. Those who complete the event to standard will earn the Norwegian Foot March pin
For 19 years, Army ROTC at the University of Southern Indiana has been a proud host of the Norwegian Foot March in partnership with Dr. Nils Johansen and the military department of Norway. Due to changes in the operating environment, we have decided to cancel this year's event. Considerations include:
1) Revisions being made to AR 600-8-22 making the event no longer an authorized foreign award producing event
2) COVID-19 impacts our ability to host a safe event for all participants due to limited social gathering size
3) Personnel changes making it difficult for us to host a safe and professional event
The event was made possible through the support of the University of Southern Indiana, its faculty, the USI Student Veterans Association and the students of Eagle Company of Wabash Battalion Army ROTC.
Point of Contact for the NFM is Mr. R. Ethan Allen at reallen1@usi.edu.
NOTICE: AR 600-8-22 is under revision. The updated regulation is expected to be published by late summer/fall 2020. Paragraph 9-26a, stating "only those badges that are awarded in recognition of military activities and by the military department..." is being revised to state "..in recognition of military activities conducted by the military department..."
