What is Lifelong Learning?

Lifelong Learning allows adults, professionals, teachers, children and students to unleash their potential by expanding their knowledge.

Lifelong Learners can explore a wide variety of courses including continuing education for various professions, courses that assist in career advancement, fitness courses, and leisure and recreational courses. Courses are intended for adults, unless specified for youth. USI also offers consulting services and customized training to area businesses and organizations.

Noncredit

USI Lifelong Learning doesn’t require prior prerequisites, degrees or an application for admission to the University. All courses are noncredit earning. However, some courses to work towards a certification, certificate, credentials or CEUs.

Continuing Education Units (CEUs)

USI is an approved provider of continuing education hours for many professions and can offer Continuing Education Units (CEUs) for all programs. Many noncredit courses are available for Continuing Education Units (CEUs), and internationally-recognized standard awarding one CEU for each ten hours of class time. Continuing Education hours for specific professions, including nursing, accountancy, social work, psychology and more are offered when appropriate and are noted in course descriptions.

While all courses are noncredit-earning, many are available for Continuing Education Units (CEUs), an internationally recognized standard awarding one CEU for every 10 hours of class time!

Where can I take classes?

Many USI Lifelong Learning courses are offered on the USI campus. We also host courses off-site at places like: New Harmony, downtown Evansville at Innovation Pointe or locations for site specific courses (golfing, sailing, etc.).

Can I take classes online?

While many of our courses are offered in person to enhance learning enrichment, we do offer a series of noncredit courses online.

Emergency weather information

USI Lifelong Learning follows the University’s policy on cancellation or delay in the event of poor weather conditions (USI.edu/emergency).

Information on class delays, cancellations or University closings is announced in several different ways. The USI homepage serves as a primary source of information (USI.edu). If you question whether your Lifelong Learning class is open or not, USI Outreach and Engagement will keep you updated at 812-464-1989.

Discounts

USI Alumni receive a 10 percent discount when they register for most noncredit courses at USI.

USI students can also receive a 10 percent discount when they register for most noncredit courses at USI.

USI employees can register for most courses for free or at a discounted price. Please register for the class online or by calling USI Outreach and Engagement. After you register, please complete the Fee Waiver Application for Noncredit Courses. If you are a USI employee and have a question about a course’s cost, please call USI Outreach and Engagement at 812-464-1989.

Some nursing continuing education offerings have the opportunity for early registration at a discounted price.

Parking

For courses held on campus or downtown at Innovation Pointe, free parking is available for students.

What to bring to class?

Most courses will provide materials needed unless specified otherwise at the time of registration.

How can I purchase a gift certificate?

Gift certificates for Lifelong Learning noncredit courses can now be purchased through Outreach and Engagement.

1. Visit USI.edu/LifelongLearning to see all upcoming noncredit courses.

2. Contact Outreach and Engagement (812-464-1989 or outreach@usi.edu) to purchase a gift certificate by specific course cost or general amount.

Example:

Purchase a gift certificate for a photography lover! "Photography Fundamentals", $48. 

or

Purchase any amount as a gift certificate that can be redeemed at an upcoming Lifelong Learning course.

3. Outreach and Engagement will send you the gift certificate.

Disability Accommodations

If you should need disability related accommodations, please contact Outreach and Engagement at 812-464-1989 or email at Outreach@usi.edu. It is recommended that you make this request at the earliest possible date to ensure that the requested accommodations are in place when needed.

Refund policy

Registration fees are refundable in full, less a 15 percent service charge and the cost of materials, until the start of the second class session. No refunds can be made after the start of the second session.

Paying for a course

Fees for noncredit courses vary and are listed within course information.

There are four easy ways to register and pay for a course:

1. Find your course online, click register and add it to your cart. You can complete your purchase with a credit card.

2. Call Outreach and Engagement at 812-464-1989 using VISA, MasterCard, American Express or Discover.

3. Mail a check or money order payable to:
