By engaging the Pott College of Science, Engineering and Education, CAR can address a host of technical needs using State of the Art technologies and skilled faculty, staff and students.
3D Printing/ Prototyping Capabilities Designs can be created and printed in the CAD lab, equipped with 16 CAD stations using AutoCAD and SolidWorks. In addition, a Zeiss CMM machine and laser scanner can be used to reverse engineer parts. |
Product/ Material Testing With access to the various labs located in the Business and Engineering Center, CAR faculty and staff have the capability to test material composition, strength and durability.
|
Chemical Testing and Analysis The chemistry and biology departments are well equipped with modern instrumentation including a 400 MHz NMR Spectrometer, Microwave Plasma Atomic Emission Spectrometer and UV-Vis-Near-IR Spectrophotometer. |
Engineering Design and Analysis Staffed with Engineering Technicians, CAR personnel can assist with the design and feasibility analysis. |
Kratochvil car clips
Spring 2017
Student engineering technicians at the AEC used reverse engineering to replicate a car trim piece for the client’s 1963 Mercury Comet.
Pacific Press
Spring 2017
Computer science and computer information systems worked with Pacific Press Technologies to create a mobile application based on a spreadsheet function that was previously on their website.
Shull Golf Tees
The Center for Applied Research connected Mike Shoal with student engineering technicians to create a prototype of his unique design of a goal tee. We 3-D printed a few samples for him.
USI Theatre Department Windows
In a last minute pinch, students at the applied engineering center were able to cut out wooden windows as a set piece just days before opening night.
Shamrock Technologies
USI Chemistry department worked to complete a chemical analysis of a residue one of their machines was producing to determine where their machine is malfunctioning.
Urban Refuge Gardening
Engineering students worked with client to design digital SolidWorks files of a garden tub that would be ideal for growing plants on an apartment balcony or patio.
