Offered by the College of Nursing and Health Professions at USI, the 100% online Bachelor of Science in Health Informatics & Information Management - Degree Completion program combines concepts in healthcare, information technology, and management practice to provide you with the knowledge needed to be a valuable designer, implementer, and manager of health information systems.

You will acquire a versatile yet focused skill set incorporating clinical, information technology, leadership, and management skills, ensuring you are able to choose from a variety of work settings and environments. The average completion time for full-time students will be 1-2 years.

  • Applicants must have a post-secondary grade point average of at least 2.75 or above based on a 4.0 scale.
  • Applicants must submit official transcripts from all undergraduate institutions attended.

Program Delivery & Technology Requirements

Courses within the BS in HIIM Program are offered entirely online using a learning management system. Access to a reliable computer with internet access is required.

The learning outcomes for the Bachelor of Science in Health Informatics and Information Management are:

  • Build and strengthen high-tech skills for our students and our community in the emerging field of Health Information Technology (HIT)
  • Provide an inclusive learning, caring community that supports students’ success and graduation
  • Promote the relationships and infrastructure to accelerate research focusing on the application of HIT to improve patient safety and comparative effectiveness
  • Catalyze collaborative interprofessional research among faculty, students and partner institutions to develop Health Informatics and Information Management Education, research and practice initiatives that could impact healthcare and public health at the local, state, regional and national domains
  • Provide community leadership through engagement, service learning, and organizational involvement
  • Provide infrastructure to facilitate the instructional and research needs of faculty (especially junior faculty) and students, funding opportunities, support services and use of technology that can improve patient-provider interaction

Program Curriculum

The BSHIIM consists of an overall 120 credit hours, with 30 credit hours of discipline-specific courses. A total of 30 credit hours must be completed at USI.
