USI President Ronald Rochon announced Patty Marcum, instructor in kinesiology and sport, as the second winner of the ScreaglePride Award during the holiday luncheon on Tuesday, December 4 in Carter Hall.

The ScreaglePride Award goes to a USI faculty or staff member who embodies the spirit of USI. Thirteen members of the USI community were nominated for the annual award, with the winner being chosen by the Elevating Spirit Committee.

Writing for her nomination, Josh Wildeman, instructor in kinesiology and sport, referenced Marcum’s impact on not only the USI community, but the community beyond University Boulevard:

“Patty embodies USI because with each student, faculty/staff, and community member she interacts with she leaves a lasting impression of genuine compassion, caring, and interest in helping.  Over my four years at USI, there has not been any other faculty member mentioned to me more than Patty when I speak to someone about working at USI.  Countless time I have heard, "Do you know Patty Marcum?"  The individual will then talk about how she was an outstanding advisor and how they couldn't have made it to graduation without her, or they will talk about one of her classes and how she was one of their favorite instructors.  Community members will say they met her volunteering or at one of the countless athletic events she works.  She has served as an ambassador for this university for decades and her positive attitude and willingness to give of her time and talents is a testament to her spirit and love of USI.”
