MLK Luncheon sold out but you can still see keynote

The University of Southern Indiana's Martin Luther King Day Memorial Luncheon on Monday, January 17, is sold out, but you can still watch the keynote lecture by actor and author Hill Harper. Free overflow seating will be available in Forum I in the Wright Administration Building, where the program will be broadcast live.

Hill will participate in an "Up Close and Personal" question and answer session in Forum I following the program, which will be held in Carter Hall in the University Center.

The event and the live stream begin at 11 a.m. Doors open at 10:30 a.m.

In addition to Harper's keynote, Designed by Grace (USI's gospel choir), Amadeus Percussions of the Glenwood Leadership Academy (formerly known as the Culver-Glenwood Drumline), and other local entertainers will perform. This event is sponsored by the USI Foundation, Department of Communications, Scripps Howard Center for Media Studies, and Multicultural Center.

About Hill Harper

Hill Harper has won legions of admirers for his portrayal of Dr. Sheldon Hawkes, a forensic pathologist who is also a crime scene investigator, on the hit CBS drama CSI: New York. Prior to CSI: New York, he co-starred on The Handler.

His acting credits include film, television, and stage, including the HBO movie Lackawanna Blues, the independent films, Love, Sex and Eating the Bones, The Visit, and The Breed, and guest appearances on ER, NYPD Blue, Murder One, The Fresh Prince of Bel Air, and Married with Children. He is a full-time member of Boston's Black Folk's Theater Company, one of the nation's oldest and most respected African American traveling theatre troupes.

Harper's passion for acting is surpassed by his dedication to inspiring America's youth. A spokesman and volunteer for Big Brothers, Big Sisters, he is the author of Letters to a Young Brother and its companion book, Letters to a Young Sister. The Conversation: How Men and Women Can Build Loving, Trusting Relationships, was published in September 2010.

Harper graduated magna cum laude from Brown University and cum laude with a J.D. from Harvard Law School. He also holds a master's degree in public administration from Harvard's Kennedy School.

He is the recipient of the NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Actor in a Drama Series, an Usher Raymond Altruism Award from The Trumpet Awards, The Reclaim Our Youth Award from Jesse Jackson and the Rainbow Push Coalition, and the American Library Association Award, naming Letters To A Young Brother the Best Book for Youth and Teens.

He was selected as one of People magazine's "Sexiest Men Alive" in 2004.
