Award Package
The Harolyn Torain Multicultural Leadership Scholarship is a $5,000 academic year award ($2,500 for fall semester and $2,500 for spring semester). Additionally, recipients will participate in an Inclusive Excellence Program that will include various leadership, community service and cultural experiences throughout the academic year. A total of 20 scholarships will be awarded annually. This scholarship cannot be combined with the David L. Rice Scholarship.
Scholarship Guidelines
The Harolyn Torain Multicultural Leadership Scholarship is renewable for 6 additional semesters beyond the initial award year (total of 8 consecutive semesters from the date of initial enrollment), or the point at which a student earns his/her first undergraduate degree, whichever comes first.
Renewal Criteria
The scholarship may be renewed automatically if the student successfully completes 24 USI credit hours each academic year (fall/spring) and earns a 2.50 cumulative USI grade point average. Recipients must maintain satisfactory participation in the Inclusive Excellence Program. The Office of Student Financial Assistance will evaluate earned hours after the spring semester. Students may make up deficits in earned hours in summer at in-state rates. Courses used to make up deficits in earned hours must be taken through USI.

Important Information for Recipients Considering Graduate School
Award recipients who meet bachelor’s degree requirements in four years or less, meet all scholarship renewal criteria and have been admitted to a USI graduate program may apply to receive this scholarship for an additional one year for USI graduate coursework (unless they receive a graduate assistantship).
