USI's Higher Education Day at the State House 2020

USI President Ronald Rochon, several key members of the staff and thirty-four students representing all four colleges, International Programs, SGA, Veterans Affairs, Graduate Studies, the Multicultural Center, and Honors Program participated in the 2020 Day at the State House. The daylong event included a tour and observation of the House and Senate Legislative Sessions in action. Several legislators and Lt. Governor Suzanne Crouch joined and spoke with the students over lunch.
USI Engineering Students and Professor honored by the Indiana State Legislature

University of Southern Indiana Engineering students and Associate Professor Glen Kissel were honored by a joint resolution of the Indiana Legislature for the successful launch on December 5, 2018 of the UNITE CubeSat aboard a SpaceX Dragon cargo ship bound for the International Space Station.

University of Southern Indiana Women's Softball team was recognized by the State Legislature for their 2018 NCAA Division II National Championship. Students were given a tour of the Statehouse and paused for a group picture in the room that houses Indiana's Supreme Court.

University of Southern Indiana students, alumni and staff visited the Indiana Statehouse and were privileged to watch as President Linda L. M. Bennett and Vice President Cynthia S. Brinker were honored on the floors of the Senate and the House for their service to USI and southern Indiana. Following the presentation of the resolutions, students toured the Statehouse and visited several legislative offices.

To commemorate recognition of the University of Southern Indiana Chamber Choir by the Indiana Senate and House of Representatives more than 50 choir members, along with an additional 50 USI students, staff and alumni, visited the Indiana State House. The choir was invited to perform on the floor of the House of Representatives and visitors to the State House were treated to an impromptu musical performance under the State House rotunda.
Participants toured the State House and were photographed with Lieutenant Governor Suzanne Crouch outside the Lieutenant Governor's office.

In celebration of the University's 50th Anniversary, nearly 50 students, alumni and staff had the opportunity to visit the state capitol. Attendees had the opportunity to speak one-on-one with legislators from their hometown at a luncheon at Colts Grille, followed by a historic tour held in the rotunda of the State House.
Participants then had the chance to observe the legislature in session in both the Senate and the House, where they were invited onto the floor for a group photo. In addition, the group visited the offices of multiple state officials.
Indiana State Assembly Club Visits USI

Members of the Indiana State Assembly Club visited the USI campus. They toured the new USI Performance Center and the Clinical Simulation Lab; had lunch with students, deans and the president; and heard a presentation on women in STEM (science, technology, engineering and math). Margie Tomes, wife of Indiana Sen. Jim Tomes, arranged the tour of USI's campus.
Indiana General Assembly Adopts Resolutions Recognizing USI Athletes

University of Southern Indiana athletes and coaches made a special trip to the Indiana Statehouse Thursday, February 5, 2015, for the presentation of two resolutions by the Indiana General Assembly congratulating the 2014 USI Men's Baseball team on their NCAA Division II Baseball Championship and Johnnie Guy for his National Title in the Outdoor Track and Field 10,000 Meters.
The resolutions were adopted by both the House and Senate. Athletes and coaches were congratulated by members of the House and Senate and Coaches Tracy Archuleta and Mike Hillyard addressed the General Assembly. In addition, coaches and athletes visited the offices of the governor and lieutenant governor, and had lunch with legislators and other elected officials at Colts Grill. Marketing Class has Governor Pence as Guest Speaker

The newly appointed Governor Pence visited Dr. Chad Milewicz's Marketing class on January 31, 2013. Pence told students "I commend all of you for making a great choice for your future attending the University of Southern Indiana.
The governor answered students' questions about the skills Indiana employers see, plans to incentivize on-time graduation, and access to pre-kindergarten education for underprivileged children."
Governor Daniels Speaks to Business Class

Governor Daniels answers questions from USI students in a Small Business and Entrepreneurship course during his visit to Evansville on September 20, 2012. Daniels focused his speech on the importance of innovation and how jobs have increased since he became governor eight years ago.
"(The job of a governor) is to create more opportunity, for the long-term future of this state so Indiana becomes a place of promise and prosperity" Daniels said.

USI's Baseball Team Meet with Governor Daniels

Prior to being honored by the Indiana General Assembly for the team's win of the 2010 NCAA Division II National Championship.
The resolution in their honor acknowledged the Screaming Eagles as the first team from the Midwest Region to win a national championship in baseball.
