University Benefits

  • An annual Volunteer Recognition Dinner honors the service provided by all volunteers who have contributed at least 20 hours of volunteer service during the prior USI fiscal year. Volunteers will be recognized for 250, 500, 750 and 1,000+ total service hours.
  • Members of the email group receive regular emails informing them of volunteer opportunities in the community and at USI.

Tax Deductions

  • The IRS allows volunteers to deduct un-reimbursed expenditures made incident to the rendering of services to the University of Southern Indiana. Examples of deductible expenses include automobile mileage, bus and cab fares, parking and toll fees, special uniforms, telephone bills, entertainment and mailings. The IRS does not allow deductions for the value of volunteer time.
