This easily overlooked plant has tiny white flowers on a long spiky stem.

Virginia knotweed is scattered throughout the woods. It may be found in thick clusters in the "pokeweed forest" where the long sprays of tiny flowers almost look like an explosion of fireworks.

Frequency: Plentiful in well-drained areas of the woods.

Blooms: July and August

Range: Frequent in low places in woods throughout Indiana.

Also known from Nova Scotia to Minnesota and from Florida to Texas.
