Buttonbush has unusual globular flowers.

This sprawling bush is a favorite nesting place for some birds, especially the prothonotary warbler, a beautiful yellow bird that frequents the swamp.

Frequency: Abundant swamp plant, easily seen from cypress swamp boardwalk.

Blooms: June and July

Range: Found in ponds and swamps throughout Indiana.

Also reported from New Brunswick to California and from Florida to Texas. Also known in east Asia.
